Shalva Papuashvili meets with the Foreign Affairs Minister of Uzbekistan

The Speaker of the Georgian Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili hosted the Foreign Affairs Minister of Uzbekistan, Baxtiyor Saidov.

The two sides expressed a positive assessment of the longstanding cooperation between the two nations and emphasised the growing dynamism of the visits. As mentioned, the meeting today was held within the framework of the Minister’s first official visit to Georgia.

Shalva Papuashvili highlighted the productive nature of his official visit to Uzbekistan last year and expressed his commitment to hosting a reciprocal visit with the Speakers of the two Chambers of the Oliy Majlis.

He expressed his gratitude to Uzbekistan for the unwavering support of the territorial integrity of Georgia. The parties emphasized the pivotal role of the legislative bodies in the enhancement of bilateral relations and underlined the significance of the Memorandum concluded between the two parliaments, as well as the exchange visits between the Friendship Groups, Committees and the parliamentary administrations.

The discourse focused on Georgia-Uzbekistan cooperation in the transport sector, aiming to maximize the potential of the Middle East Corridor and enhance connectivity with Central Asia.

The emphasis was placed on the further intensification of the people-to-people ties, including through cultural and educational exchanges.

The establishment of the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Georgia was estimated as imperative.

The meeting was attended by Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee, Nikoloz Samkharadze; Deputy Foreign Minister, Alexander Khvtisiashvili; and the Ambassador of Georgia to Uzbekistan, David Kotaria.
