The Prime Minister of Georgia expressed strong optimism regarding Georgia"s readiness to join the European Union by 2030, provided there is a “fair approach” from the bloc.
“We constantly call for consultations and discussions on all relevant topics and insist on fact-based dialogue. Unfortunately, in return, we often hear harsh and vague statements that lack specific facts.
When we voice dissatisfaction with certain remarks or actions, our position is always based on facts - and that is a healthy, European approach. Sadly, this European approach is often met with a Soviet-style response. We believed that we left that behind 35 years ago, yet unfortunately, we still see those attitudes persist - and, worryingly, we often see them coming from the West.
I hope that this approach would change, as such a shift was necessary - first and foremost for Europe itself and for strengthening EU-Georgia relations. We are fully ready for that.
Our goal is enshrined in Georgia’s Constitution: to become an EU member by 2030. This is absolutely achievable if a fair approach is ensured. Georgia will be at its most prepared in 2030. If fairness is guaranteed, it will happen”, - said Irakli Kobakhidze.
