I would respond to the British Ambassador by asking him to carefully review the legislation we have adopted regarding media, we are implementing exactly the same legislation as in UK - Macharashvili

The Georgia Dream says that the statement by Gareth Ward, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, is disinformation. As it known, the Ambassador released a video message on social media on World Press Freedom Day, accusing the Government of restricting the media.

According to Guram Matcharashvili, Deputy Chairman of the People’s Power parliamentary political group, diplomats are spreading unverified information and relying on misconceptions.

"Unfortunately, Ambassadors of some countries have a habit of making statements based on unverified information… The duty of an Ambassador is not to get involved in either the economy or politics of the country to which he is assigned. His duty is to promote friendly relations between the two countries.

But this is a sad reality in the world today, not only in Georgia. Therefore, I would respond to the British Ambassador by asking him to carefully read and ask his own staff what legislation we have adopted regarding the media, and then reprimand the staff if they are not told that we are implementing exactly the same legislation as in Britain", - noted Guram Matcharashvili.
