36 years after April 9, when the modern world brings new challenges, the ideals of the Georgian nation - the independence and unity of the country, the construction of a politically and economically strong Georgia - remain unchanged. Such a statement made today the First Vice Prime Minister of Georgia, Levan Davitashvili.
“April 9 is a special, very important date for each of us, for all citizens of Georgia, a day when love for the homeland and the desire for independence united the entire country, all generations in the fight against the Soviet system.
Today we honor the memory of those who died on April 9, these people gave their lives for the homeland, for a better, free life for future generations.
The sacrifice of those who died on April 9 has already become a legend, a symbol of courage and is forever written in the history of Georgia.
The main thing is that the sacrifice of these people was not in vain and became a stimulus, a new breath of life for the fight for independence, which was finally crowned two years later, on April 9, 1991, with the restoration of Georgia’s independence. Once again, many thanks to them for their heroism and sacrifice, for the achievement called free Georgia“, - said Levan Davitashvili.
