We have launched a deep and complex reform of the education system, one of the primary goals of which, alongside raising the quality of learning, is the proper appreciation of the exceptional contribution of educators. Teachers hold the main role in raising educated and patriotic future generations. The Prime Minister of Georgia said this during his speech at the solemn event of the National Teacher’s Prize award ceremony in Kutaisi.
Head of the Government congratulated the educators on National Teacher`s Day.
"This professional holiday is being celebrated for the fourth time today, and I am glad that it is being hosted for the first time by our distinguished educational center, our dearest city of Kutaisi.
I would like to remind you that the establishment of National Teacher`s Day is connected to the birthday of the great public figure and educator, the founder of scientific pedagogy in Georgia, Iakob Gogebashvili. This year`s celebration is also symbolic because it marks the 150th anniversary of the publication of the immortal "Deda Ena" [The Mother Tongue]. With this book, Iakob Gogebashvili taught Georgian children the love of the motherland alongside the alphabet. "Deda Ena" is a living monument of our national spirit and identity.
We have launched a deep and complex reform of the education system, one of the primary goals of which, alongside raising the quality of learning, is the proper appreciation of the exceptional contribution of educators.
Teachers hold the main role in raising educated and patriotic future generations. Therefore, raising the prestige of the teaching profession is a crucial social and state task. The National Teacher`s Prize, which is awarded to outstanding educators, serves this purpose. This year, 10 winning teachers were revealed nationwide. Furthermore, for the second consecutive year, awards ceremonies for honored teachers of local schools are being held across municipalities. I would like to congratulate each laureate and each educator in advance on their well-deserved recognition", - said Irakli Kobakhidze.
As he noted, alongside the dedication of talented youth, it is the credit of the tireless work of educators that against the backdrop of a global decline in educational achievements, Georgia achieved significant progress in the PISA 2025 study.
"According to the study, in terms of improving results in science, Georgia ranks first among the 91 participating countries, while in mathematics and science subjects, we have the best performance of the last decade.
Iakob Gogebashvili left us a priceless legacy: the belief that the future of a nation stands upon the school and the teacher. Today, you, our educators, serve this great mission with dignity. Once again, I thank each of you for the honorably traveled path, dedication, professionalism, and contribution. I congratulate you on your professional day and wish you much success", - said Irakli Kobakhidze.
