The US Congress tightens FARA to eliminate loopholes in the Foreign Agents Registration Act

The US Congress is tightening FARA – the goal is to eliminate loopholes in the Foreign Agents Registration Act. The relevant bill has already been approved by the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

The bill provides for the elimination of exemptions that, according to lawmakers, allow representatives of foreign countries to conduct lobbying activities in the US and avoid registering with foreign agent status.

Ten senators participated in the drafting and processing of the amendments, including Jim Risch and John Cornyn. For the bill to enter into force, it must first be approved by the US Senate and the House of Representatives, after which it must be signed by the President.

It is worth noting that a similar bill has also been introduced in the lower house of Congress.
