Officers of Marneuli Police Division of Kvemo Kartli Police Department under the Ministry of Internal Affairs have arrested two persons convicted of various crimes in the past: E.M., born in 1962, and A.G., born in 1981, on charges of extortion and illegal acquisition, storage, and carrying of firearms for the purpose of obtaining a large amount of property.

The investigation established that in January-February of the current year, several citizens residing in Marneuli were contacted through their mobile phones by unknown individuals on behalf of the criminal authority "Polada" and demanded certain amount of cash, otherwise they were threatened with death and destruction of property.

As a result of the complex operational measures and investigative actions carried out into the case, law enforcement officers soon identified the perpetrators of the crime and arrested them as accused persons.

The investigation is underway under Articles 181 and 236 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which provides for imprisonment for a term of up to 7 years.
