Attempt to import 157 kg of "heroin" into Georgia prevented as part of a joint operation

As part of jointly conducted measures, officers of the Customs Department of the Revenue Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia, in cooperation with representatives of the Central Criminal Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, carried out another successful operational and investigative action. In particular, an attempt to import into Georgia an especially large quantity of the narcotic substance heroin, weighing 157 kilograms and valued at approximately 50 million GEL, was prevented.

As a result of the analytical processing of relevant risk modules by customs officers, a truck engaged in international transportation and loaded with marble slabs was stopped while passing through the "Red Bridge" border crossing point. Following a detailed inspection of the vehicle`s trailer, 157 kilograms of the narcotic substance heroin were discovered.

The said narcotic substance was covertly concealed in the trailer compartment of the truck, hidden within specially prepared structures designed to resemble marble slabs.

The Revenue Service once again underscores that the strictest control over high-risk consignments entering the customs border will continue to be actively enforced in the future, and that the territory of Georgia will never become a corridor for narcotics transit.
