Officers of Adjara Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs have arrested seven citizens of China and Thailand on charges of promoting prostitution and providing lodging to prostitution.
The investigative actions conducted by law enforcement officers, including evidence obtained as a result of audio and video recordings made on the basis of a judge`s ruling, established that the defendants provided spaces on the regular basis in facilities located in Batumi to women involved in prostitution in exchange for a certain amount of money. Herewith, in order to promote participation in prostitution, they attracted clients and the receipt and distribution of funds earned from prostitution.
As a result of the complex investigative actions carried out by the police, 7 people were arrested as accused persons and 12 facilities were closed.
Law enforcement officers took the women employed at the facilities for questioning and further legal procedures are underway.
The facts of facilitating prostitution and providing a place for prostitution are being investigated under Article 254 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which envisions the imprisonment for a term of up to 4 years.
