Speaker of the Georgian Parliament said that US President`s decision not to invite an OSCE[/ODIHR] election observation mission to monitor the US midterm elections once again demonstrated a "crisis of trust" in international institutions.
His comments came after Donald Trump decided not to invite an OSCE observation mission to monitor the US midterm elections.
"The United States knows better than anyone what role election observation missions have played in different countries, including Georgia.
This once again shows that there is a crisis of trust in international institutions, particularly when it comes to election observation missions. We are seeing that observation missions are increasingly being used to destabilize countries after elections. Georgia is a good example of this.
We saw a Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe mission and a European Parliament mission come to Georgia directly with the aim of destabilizing the country and creating disorder.
It was a fact that the two delegations had pressured the OSCE delegation to change its initial conclusions… So everyone knows this, and who knows it better than the US, which was one of the main funders of various election observation missions, including during Georgia`s 2024 elections, when we saw what I consider to be false conclusions from IRI and NDI regarding the elections… So who better than the US President to know what objectives some election observation missions may have? Ultimately, this decision not to invite an OSCE mission is an expression of the general distrust that exists", - said Shalva Papuashvili.
