Fight against corruption and official misconduct will remain a priority direction for the SSSG`s activities - Tamaz Borashvili

The Defence and Security Committee heard Tamaz Borashvili, who has been nominated for election as Head of the State Security Service of Georgia.

The candidate provided information on his professional activities in various positions within the State Security Service and, speaking about the areas that would constitute the country’s security priorities if elected as Head of the Service, outlined the key directions of his future work.

"It is a great honour and responsibility for me to lead the agency that plays a decisive role in ensuring the security of the country. I have been serving in the State Security Service for many years. Throughout these years, the primary objective of my professional activities has been to safeguard Georgia`s national interests, the security of the state, and the peace of our country. Over the years, I have had the opportunity to work in various positions within the State Security Service. I am well aware of the capabilities of this agency and the challenges facing our country. Based on this experience, I have clearly seen one thing – security is not something achieved once and then permanently secured. Security requires vigilance, continuous effort, strong institutions, and people who perform their duties with the utmost responsibility and professionalism", - Tamaz Borashvili stated.

Speaking about the activities of the State Security Service and its priority areas, the candidate nominated for the position of Head of the Service focused on threats emanating from Russia, challenges in the occupied territories, counter-terrorism and counterintelligence activities, economic crime, the fight against corruption, institutional strengthening of the Service, and international cooperation.

During the hearing of Tamaz Borashvili, the question-and-answer session continued in camera. The Committee approved his candidacy.
