The Tbilisi City Court has announced the verdict in the case of Aleko Elisashvili, who was arrested for attempting to commit a terrorist act. He was sentenced to 13 years in prison.
Aleko Elisashvili was arrested on November 29. One of the leaders of the “Strong Georgia – Lelo” coalition faces charges under two counts. On November 30, the Prosecutor’s Office charged Elisashvili at the Tbilisi City Court with attempting to commit a terrorist act under Part 1 of Article 19-323 of the Criminal Code of Georgia. Additionally, on March 30, he was charged under Part 1 of Article 323 for a second episode regarding 'a terrorist act committed on May 4, 2025.
Elisashvili’s teammates believe there is insufficient evidence in the case. Meanwhile, the ruling party states that the opposition politician’s attempt to burn down the court building was clearly captured by surveillance cameras.
