The verdict in the case of 8 individuals accused in one of the episodes of the October 4 violent events was announced today. The session has just concluded at the Tbilisi City Court. Zurab Chavchanidze, who had been expelled for contempt of court, appeared at today’s trial. It was precisely at the stage of his final closing statement that the trial had been previously postponed.

In this case, the defendants were sentenced as follows: Zurab Chavchanidze – 5 years, Vladimer Gvelesiani – 5 years, Amiran Dolishvili – 5 years, Anton Vardanidze – 5 years, Alexandre Chilachava – 5 years, Genadi Kupreishvili – 5 years, Sulkhan Tughushi – 5 years, and Ramaz Mamuladze – 5 years.

There were 14 defendants in total in this episode of the case; 6 of them entered into a plea bargain and were released from the courtroom.
