Due to heavy rainfall, certain problems emerged at the “Avlabari” metro station, the rehabilitation of which was completed two years ago, said today the Mayor of Tbilisi.

“Everyone saw the footage - it was practically raining inside just as it was outside. Prior to the rehabilitation, the station had been in severe condition, worn out and in a hazardous situation. The project approval process and related procedures took some time, but the project was ultimately implemented.

However, it is now evident that there is a defect, which is creating inconvenience and discomfort. I would like to instruct our Internal Audit and Monitoring Service, as well as my deputy mayors, to begin investigating this matter.

I do not wish to make premature statements; however, companies undertaking specific projects assume responsibility for carrying out the works, and it is important that they perform them with proper quality. I also saw the photographs showing that the drainage pipes were misaligned, and there must be an explanation as to why they were misaligned.

I do not yet know whose fault it is - the company’s, the receiving party’s, or the supervisor’s.

The Audit Service is tasked with thoroughly investigating everything and, if necessary, taking appropriate measures. In general, such irresponsible attitudes are categorically unacceptable. Companies working on City Hall projects should know very well that responsibility and quality are very important. We carry out these works so that they can last for decades. This city does not belong only to the members of the Tbilisi City Hall government, it belongs to everyone, and we should all share this responsibility equally.
