37 years since the April 9 tragedy - a date that defined Georgia’s modern history and has become a symbol of both mourning and freedom for the country.

Since early morning, government representatives, participants of the National Movement, and relatives of the deceased have been at the April 9 Memorial on Rustaveli Avenue. The Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Kobakhidze, Minister of Defense Irakli Chikhovani, Minister of Foreign Affairs Maka Botchorishvili, State Minister for Reconciliation and Civic Equality Tea Akhvlediani, Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture David Songhulashvili, Minister of Internal Affairs Geka Geladze, and other members of the Cabinet of Ministers arrived at the site.

The President of Georgia, Mikheil Kavelashvili, was also present at the memorial. Speaker of the Parliament Shalva Papuashvili and members of the legislative body also honored the memory of those who died during the April 9 tragedy and laid flowers at the memorial.

A certain group of citizens gathered on Rustaveli Avenue is meeting people who came to pay their respects, including participants of the April 9 events, with aggression and preventing them from approaching the memorial. There was verbal confrontations at the scene.
