The Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, Archbishop of Mtskheta-Tbilisi, Metropolitan of Bichvinta and Tskhum-Abkhazia, His Holiness and Beatitude Ilia II, will be buried today.

The Liturgy will begin at 09:00 AM at the Holy Trinity Cathedral. The divine service will be performed by the Locum Tenens of the Patriarchal Throne of All Georgia, Metropolitan Shio (Mujiri) of Senaki and Chkhorotsku, together with the members of the Holy Synod of the Georgian Church.

The funeral service for His Holiness and Beatitude, Ilia II, will be performed by His All-Holiness Bartholomew I, Archbishop of Constantinople – New Rome and Ecumenical Patriarch, together with the Locum Tenens of the Patriarchal Throne, Metropolitan Shio, and the members of the Holy Synod of the Georgian Church.

The Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia will presumably be carried out of the Holy Trinity Cathedral at 3:00 PM, and the procession will head toward the Sioni Cathedral. After His Holiness is laid to rest at the Sioni Cathedral, mourning bells will toll in all active churches and monasteries across the Mtskheta-Tbilisi Eparchy and other dioceses.
Only clergy will be present inside the Sioni Cathedral during the burial of the Catholicos-Patriarch Ilia II.

His Holiness and Beatitude, Ilia II, passed away on March 17 at the age of 93.
