At a time when official London is busy taking demonstrative measures against Georgian media outlets, a scandalous study by the “Transparency International” points to a double standard in British policy. According to the survey, “companies under British jurisdiction itself remain the main channels for financing the Russian war machine”. As the report reads, it is established that Russia manages to bypass economic restrictions specifically with the help of British companies. This involves more than 29,000 trade transactions, with a total value of USD 8 billion. These financial operations were carried out after the start of the war in Ukraine.

The document also cites assessments from experts who believe that London’s foreign policy reputation is being called into question.

According to Georgia Foreign Minister, during the summoning of the British Ambassador to the Ministry, the issue of British companies trading with Russia was addressed. Questions were posed to the Ambassador regarding the purpose of the pressure on the Georgian state and Georgian society, and how this relates to the fight against Russia.

“During these 40 minutes, we also touched upon this issue. Information is being circulated confirming the volume of trade carried out by companies registered in Great Britain with Russia. Such materials exist, presented not only in Georgian but also in international media, and are based on international research. Against this backdrop, when pressure is being exerted on Georgian society, it naturally raises questions. We are not afraid to ask these questions, and we ask: what purpose is served by the pressure on the Georgian state and Georgian society, and what connection does it have to the fight against Russia, as they tell us they are fighting Russia”, - said Maka Botchorishvili.
