Speaker of the Georgian Parliament accused the European Union of leading Europe toward a "civilizational abyss", saying Georgia`s task was to help save Europe and preserve the civilization of which Georgians were co-creators.
He made the remarks while discussing recent developments in France, arguing that EU member states` governments were failing to act in accordance with their own citizens` national interests.
"We see where the European Union is leading Europe today. This is the result of governments in EU member states failing to act in accordance with their people’s national interests. This is the main reason why Brussels’ diktat is also being imposed on EU member states, forcing them to act against their own interests, whether in migration policy, economic policy or other areas. The outcome of these policies is that Governments are acting against the interests of their citizens, resulting in widespread public dissatisfaction…
Polls also confirm that public trust in governments is very low. Trust in the governments of Germany, France and other leading countries stands at around 10%. This distrust has subsequently manifested itself in the violence we are witnessing on the streets of various European cities", - said Shalva Papuashvili.
Referring to what he described as a civilizational abyss into which Brussels was leading Europe, he pointed to unrest in Paris, including the burning of buildings and historical and cultural heritage sites, as well as violence in the streets of Paris and other cities: "We are all witnessing Europe`s civilizational abyss… Ultimately, we can say that the EU is destroying Europe’s civilization today, and our task is also to save Europe and preserve the civilization of which we are co-creators. We see where the EU is leading Europe today… Europe itself needs to be saved from Brussels and EU leaders to prevent it from ultimately plunging into a civilizational abyss".
