The project to restore degraded forests in the Mukhuri and Satsiri forest reserves of the Tkibuli forest district will be implemented on a total area of 6 hectares. Specialists of the National Forestry Agency [NFA] will develop a restoration project, and work will begin in 2027.
A mixed grove of Colchian box and chestnut was widespread in the Mukhuri territory, which has been destroyed as a result of the impact of the pest. After fencing and cleaning the perimeter, it will be planned to plant species that will ensure the preservation of the original ecosystem. In the Satsiri territory, oak, pine, chestnut and beech species are planned to be planted as an indication.
“The main goal of the forestry reform is the restoration of degraded forests. This year, the NFA has implemented forest restoration measures in 9 regions of the country, on an area of up to 2,600 hectares. According to the long-term plan, forest restoration measures will be implemented on a total area of up to 51,000 hectares”, - said Besik Amiranashvili, Head of the NFA.
