The Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture will join Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze in Yerevan for the 17th meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP17) to the Convention on Biological Diversity.
“The Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity is held once every three years, playing a crucial role in shaping key policy decisions. Georgia is at the forefront in this regard. Under internationally agreed targets, the goal is to expand protected and conserved areas to cover 30% of the country’s territory by 2036. However, we are confident we can achieve this target earlier and faster. Moreover, equally important are decisions aimed at restoring endangered species populations and improving forest management. Overall, Georgia’s environmental reforms are distinguished by their alignment with international standards and the significant progress achieved in this area”, - said David Songulashvili.
The Prime Minister will address the Leaders’ Summit, scheduled to be held as part of the conference, and will also attend the conference’s official opening ceremony.
