Georgia’s economy by purchasing power parity in terms of per capita progress since 2012 ranks among the world’s top-3, leads in Eurasia - IMF assessment

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) published its long-term projections for the global economy, placing Georgia among the world’s top-3 countries in terms of real economic growth and purchasing power over both 10-year and 20-year periods, while ranking it first in Eurasia.

“Driven by the progress achieved since 2012, Georgia’s GDP per capita at purchasing power parity (PPP) is projected to rank among the world’s top three by 2026, making the country a clear leader in Eurasia.

Georgia’s real GDP per capita is projected to grow by 85% between 2022 and 2031 and by 185% between 2012 and 2031. These growth rates would place Georgia among the top-3 countries globally over both the 10-year and 20-year periods, while ranking it first in Eurasia.

Georgia’s GDP per capita at PPP is projected to increase 2.5-fold between 2022 and 2031 and fivefold between 2012 and 2031. These projected growth rates would place Georgia among the world’s top-3 countries over both periods and rank it first in Eurasia.

Reflecting the progress achieved since 2012, Georgia is projected to rank among the world’s top-3 countries in GDP per capita at PPP by 2026, while maintaining its leading position in Eurasia. Over the 14-year period from 2012 to 2026, this indicator is projected to increase by more than 215%, reaching a record 32,661 international dollars in 2026. The IMF projects it will rise further to 46,848 international dollars by 2031. Georgia’s nominal GDP per capita, measured in USD, is projected to continue growing at a double-digit rate in 2026, reaching USD 11,234.

The IMF forecasts that the figure will rise to USD 12,538 in 2027, exceed USD 13,694 in 2028, reach USD 14,975 in 2029, surpass USD 16,383 in 2030, and climb to USD 17,923 by 2031.

Georgia could begin moving into the high-income country category as early as 2028… Georgia’s nominal GDP, measured in USD, will grow at an average annual rate of 10.7% between 2026 and 2031”, - reads the report.
