Deputy Economy Ministers present new draft hydro-technical structure safety regulations to energy sector

Deputy Ministers of Economy and Sustainable Development introduced the draft technical regulation on the safety of hydro-technical structures to the representatives of the energy sector.

The purpose of the document is to implement a monitoring system for the safe functioning of hydro-technical structures and to define the safety requirements that hydro-technical structures, including dams and reservoirs, must comply with.

“We discussed an important technical regulation that was prepared with the involvement of international experts. For the first time in the history of Georgia, we are introducing such a high safety standard regarding hydro-technical structures in the country, which ensures their safe operation.

When we focus on and prioritize the energy sector, it is crucial to protect the safety norms of this sector and regulate it at the legislative level. This will ensure the monitoring and technical supervision of hydropower plants [HPPs] currently in operation in our country, as well as those that will be constructed in the future”, - said Genadi Arveladze, Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development.
