Work is actively underway on the railway connecting section toward Anaklia, which will be implemented with the support of the World Bank. Prime Minister of Georgia said this in his speech at the event dedicated to the Railway Workers’ Day.

"With the support of the World Bank, the construction of a new 18-kilometer railway section is planned, with an estimated cost of 200 million USD.

The construction tender will be announced by the end of the month. Exceptionally many and important changes have taken place in the railway system during this period. The commercial and operational management processes of the company have been completely revised.

Inefficient costs were reduced, resource management improved and as a result of the implemented optimization, 190 million GEL was saved. This process is ongoing. Very important changes will also be made by the end of the year; however, according to data from the first 9 months of the current year, JSC Georgian Railway`s net profit doubled compared to the same period last year, which speaks for itself. Naturally, these saved funds will once again be reinvested into the development of Georgian Railway", - said Irakli Kobakhidze.
