Today, as transport routes change and interest in the Middle Corridor grows, the role of the railway becomes even more significant. A modernized, contemporary and properly functioning railway system offers Georgia an opportunity to further strengthen its role as a transit hub. Prime Minister of Georgia said this during his keynote speech at an event dedicated to Railway Workers` Day.
The Head of Government of Georgia congratulated railway workers on their professional day and spoke about the role of the railway in the country`s economic development.
"For over a century and a half, the railway has remained one of Georgia's main transport arteries. Developing transport infrastructure is one of our key priorities. Over the coming years, through 2032, a total of 7 billion USD will be invested in transport infrastructure. Alongside ports, highways and airports, a crucial component of this plan is the renewal and strengthening of the railway. At the end of last year, the historic modernization of Georgia’s main railway line was completed, which doubled its capacity and significantly reduced transit time.
We also completed the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars (BTK) project and this section of the railway has entered full-scale operation", - said Irakli Kobakhidze.
