Shalva Papuashvili met with the Speaker of the Upper House of the Parliament of Uzbekistan

Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia Shalva Papuashvili met with Tanzila Narbayeva, Speaker of the Senate (Upper House) of the Parliament of the Republic of Uzbekistan – the Oliy Majlis.

Shalva Papuashvili congratulated Tanzila Narbayeva on the 35th anniversary of Uzbekistan`s independence and wished Uzbekistan further success and prosperity.

The growing and fruitful relations between Georgia and Uzbekistan were emphasised. The sides noted the visit of the President of Uzbekistan to Georgia in the summer of this year, as a result of which relations between the two countries were elevated to the level of strategic partnership.

The sides highlighted parliamentary cooperation and noted that parliamentary ties are developing intensively. They also reviewed cooperation in the areas of economy, tourism and education.

The discussion also addressed the importance of further developing the "Middle Corridor". The sides expressed their readiness to work jointly on this issue.

The meeting was held on the sidelines of the 153rd IPU Assembly, taking place in Arusha, Tanzania. Nikoloz Samkharadze, Chair of the Foreign Relations Committee, and Mariam Lashkhi, Chair of the Education, Science and Youth Affairs Committee, also participating in the event.
