The competent authorities of the United Kingdom have granted the request of the Prosecutor General`s Office of Georgia to extradite a wanted convict to Georgia for the rape of a minor.

On February 15, 2024, the Tbilisi City Court fully accepted the evidence presented by the prosecution and found the defendant guilty of raping a minor.

As a result of the investigation conducted by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the evidence presented by the prosecution at the trial confirmed that from 2006 to 2013, the convict systematically raped his niece, who was under the age of fourteen, in a residential building in Tbilisi, taking advantage of the victim`s helplessness.

The accused was evading the investigative authorities, he was charged in absentia under Article 137, Part 5 of the Criminal Code of Georgia (rape, that is, sexual intercourse taking advantage of the victim`s helplessness, committed against a person who has not reached the age of fourteen - the version in force until December 30, 2013), was sentenced to imprisonment as a preventive measure, and a wanted person was declared.

The Tbilisi City Court found the defendant fully guilty of the charges and sentenced him to 20 years in prison.

The convicted person, wanted by the competent authorities of Georgia, was arrested by law enforcement officers in London on October 22, 2024.
