Speaker of the Georgian Parliament said that relations between Georgia and the EU could be restored once EU institutions "stop supporting radicalism".

Discussing the possibility of resuming dialogue with the EU, he said that, based on a recent statement by the EU Delegation to Georgia, Brussels was seeking to restore dialogue while using offensive language.

"Unfortunately, this is the format of relations we have with the EU today, when the EU Ambassador tells us that swearing at someone`s mother is part of Georgian cultural heritage and freedom of expression.

If swearing at someone`s mother is a normal thing in Poland, in his home country, I do not know, but this is not the case in Georgia, and he should behave in a way that befits Georgia.

Today, the obstacle in these relations is radicalism, which is encouraged and funded by various EU funds, including through political statements. Today, the EU Ambassador directly encouraged the public swearing at someone’s mother in Georgia and almost presented it in the context of cultural heritage.

As soon as the encouragement of radicalism ends, these relations will naturally be restored, because radicalism is what currently stands as a barrier between Georgia and the EU", - said Shalva Papuashvili.
