Besik Amiranashvili, Head of the National Forestry Agency [NFA], visited the Tsalka–Tetritskaro forest district in the Kvemo Kartli region to inspect the progress of an ongoing forest restoration project.

Adjacent to the village of Akhalsheni, 24,250 Caucasian pine seedlings were planted across 12 hectares as part of a comprehensive forest restoration project, where the forest cover had been significantly degraded due to intensive logging and overgrazing in the past.

At this stage, forest restoration activities are underway across a total area of 118 hectares within the Tsalka–Tetritskaro forest district.

"One of the main priorities of the forestry sector reform is the restoration of degraded forests. Consequently, the NFA annually expands the scale of forest restoration measures, which also includes assisting natural regeneration. It is important that, in parallel, forest inventory operations are carried out on a continuous basis. The combination of these measures contributes to improving both the quantitative and qualitative indicators of the country`s forests and, ultimately, to the successful implementation of the forestry reform", - said Besik Amiranashvili.

By the end of 2026, the NFA will carry out forest restoration measures across nearly 2,600 hectares in 9 regions of the country. Forest restoration activities will cover a total of up to 51,000 hectares by 2031.
