The Orthodox Church celebrates the feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary – Gvtismshobloba – today.

A festive liturgy will be held in every active church across the country. The Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, Shio III, will conduct the divine service at the Batumi Cathedral.

"With the birth of the Most Holy Theotokos, immense joy was granted to all mankind, because the Most Holy Virgin Mary gave birth to the Messiah, the Lord Jesus Christ, who redeemed humanity from infernal suffering and gave people the opportunity to enter Paradise. Festive liturgies are being celebrated in all active churches. In Batumi, at the Cathedral, the Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, Shio III, is conducting the festive service", - said Archimandrite Iovane [Mchedlishvili].

The Nativity of the Virgin Mary is one of the 12 Great Feasts of the Church.
