In January-August 2026, the Georgian transport and logistics sector recorded numbers that reached a decade-long high. According to preliminary data, all-time highs were broken across sea ports and terminals, as well as in rail freight and civil aviation.

The total volume of cargo processed in Georgia’s sea ports and terminals reached 13.7 million tons, which is 24% higher compared to the same period last year. This figure represents the highest result for the January-August period over the last 10 years. Moreover, growth was recorded in all categories of cargo. During the same period, the volume of containers processed at the ports amounted to 554,174 TEU, which is a 9% increase compared to the previous year and also marks a decade-long record.

The total volume of cargo transported in the rail sector reached 9.7 million tons, which exceeds the same period of last year by 11%. Particularly noteworthy is the volume of cargo transported directly under the transit regime, where a 14% increase was recorded. This result underscores once again the growing role of Georgia and the Middle Corridor in international transport connectivity.

As for air cargo, in terms of freight turnover in this segment, airports processed 29.3 thousand tons of cargo, which surpasses the previous year’s figure by 30% and also stands as a decade-long record.

A positive dynamic is observed in the aviation sector regarding passenger transportation as well. During the reporting period, Georgia’s international airports served 5.7 million passengers, which is 1% more compared to last year and represents the highest result for the first 8 months of the year over the past decade. Furthermore, a historic high was recorded in terms of monthly figures based on the number of passengers transported specifically in August.
