The National Food Agency will implement an electronic system to enhance the efficiency of meat and meat product control.

According to the agency, the electronic system for meat and meat product control will be introduced in the near future, making state control faster and more efficient, as information will be accessible electronically.

The implementation of the new system will strengthen the control of meat and meat products and contribute to the creation of a more modern and effective mechanism for state food safety control. The developed system is in full alignment with the relevant European Union requirements and represents significant progress toward ensuring food safety in Georgia.

Traceability means the ability to know the origin of the meat and the path it takes from farm to table; in other words, it simplifies retrieving information regarding the origin and movement of the product. Meat and meat products are classified as high-risk food items, and their effective control is of particular importance for human health. For this purpose, the National Food Agency, with the technical support of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations NAITS project, is implementing an electronic system, which marks another step forward in ensuring the safety and traceability of meat and meat products.
