A camera trap captured illegal logging in the Khashuri forestry district

Employees of the Shida Kartli Regional Service of the National Forestry Agency [NFA] detected a case of illegal logging in the Khashuri forest district. A citizen illegally harvested 129 oak trees, totaling 5 cubic meters of firewood.

An administrative violation report was filed against the offender. The illegally harvested firewood was transferred to the Khashuri operational log yard for further disposition. The violation was uncovered using a camera trap installed in the state forest.

“To prevent illegal harvesting of forest resources and strengthen control, we carry out monitoring using modern technologies - drones, body cameras, and camera traps. Appropriate legal measures will be taken regarding the identified violations”, - said Irakli Benashvili, Deputy Head of the NFA.
