As a result of operative-searching and investigative activities carried out by employees of the Investigation Service of Ministry of Finance of Georgia, three persons were detained in three separate criminal cases.
The investigation into the first criminal case determined that an employee of the Municipal Service Center of Telavi City Hall, abusing his official position, illegally demanded and received GEL 500 from a citizen in exchange for carrying out works on a land plot using special machinery registered on the balance of the municipality. The investigation is underway under Part 3 of Article 221 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which envisages imprisonment from 2 to 4 years.
In the second criminal case, a veterinarian of the National Food Agency was detained in the Mtskheta-Mtianeti region on the basis of a court ruling for commercial bribery committed by a group. The investigation determined that the accused handed over laboratory test reports to a customer in exchange for money. The investigation is underway under Subparagraph “a” of Part 4 of Article 221 of the Criminal Code of Georgia.
The third case determined that a doctor employed at a medical institution in the Kakheti region, abusing his official position, illegally issued a forged prescription for a citizen in order to purchase a psychotropic substance. The investigation into the case is underway under Part 2 of Article 268 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which envisages imprisonment from 3 to 6 years.
The Investigation Service of Ministry of Finance of Georgia will actively continue strict preventive and operative measures across the country to prevent crimes committed in the financial and economic field.
