Georgia has launched construction of a new 11.3-km section of the Batumi-Sarpi road, one of the final major sections of the East-West Highway, with financial support from the Asian Development Bank [ADB] and total project funding exceeding USD 350 million. Such a statement made today Georgian Finance Minister.

“Today, an agreement was signed to implement a strategically important project, which is practically one of the final major sections of the East-West Highway.

We are talking about the Batumi-Sarpi section. The project is important both in terms of its engineering design and the scale of the investment… The project’s financing had been secured with the support of the ADB, with total funding exceeding USD 350 million.

In this regard, the Government of Georgia continues to actively cooperate with international financial institutions, both in financing road infrastructure and in funding various municipal, water supply and regional projects.

The ADB is one of the leading financial institutions in Georgia, supporting virtually all priority areas of our country and the Government of Georgia”, - said Lasha Khutsishvili.

The agreement covers the construction of a new 11.3-km road along the Batumi-Sarpi section of the East-West Highway.
