The Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia, Shalva Papuashvili, met with SONG SEOGJUN, the Chair of the Foreign Relations Committee of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea and members of the Committee.

During the introductory meeting, the sides discussed relations between the two countries.

The delegation members also held a meeting with Nikoloz Samkharadze, Chair of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Parliament of Georgia.

The delegation of the Foreign Relations Committee of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea is visiting Georgia at the invitation of Nikoloz Samkharadze.

The sides discussed bilateral relations between Georgia and the Republic of Korea and opportunities to further deepen cooperation at the parliamentary level.

The meeting addressed ways to deepen cooperation in the political, trade, economic, cultural, educational, innovation and other fields. The sides expressed hope that a free trade agreement between Georgia and the Republic of Korea would be signed in the near future.

The meeting also covered the global security environment, the ongoing war in Ukraine, Black Sea security, and conflicts in the Middle East. The sides emphasized the importance of the role of the “Middle Corridor”. Nikoloz Samkharadze briefed his counterparts on the difficult situation in Georgia’s occupied regions, growing threats emanating from Russia, and the security environment surrounding the country.

The sides discussed Georgia’s energy potential, including the construction of hydropower plants planned by the Georgian authorities and opportunities for Korean investment in Georgia’s energy projects.

Nikoloz Samkharadze called on the members of the delegation of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea to consider introducing a visa-free regime for Georgian citizens traveling to the Republic of Korea, which would contribute to the development of tourism between the two countries.

The sides agreed to exchange parliamentary delegations between Georgia and the Republic of Korea on an annual basis.
