Irakli Kobakhidze, Prime Minister of Georgia met Arsenio Dominguez, Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization (IMO).

The Head of Government of Georgia thanked the IMO Secretary-General for participating in the Georgian International Maritime Forum and highlighted the productive cooperation between Georgia and the International Maritime Organization.

The important role of the International Maritime Organization’s support in the development and modernisation of Georgia’s maritime sector was emphasised.

The two sides expressed their readiness to further deepen cooperation, including in strengthening maritime safety, improving environmental standards and advancing digital connectivity. The meeting also focused on the growing volume of cargo traffic and the major infrastructure projects being implemented by the Government of Georgia to strengthen the country’s connectivity function. In this regard, the importance of modernising airports and the railway system, as well as the Anaklia Deep Sea Port, was highlighted. The port is expected to receive its first vessels by 2029.
