A narcotic substance was detected at the Sarpi Customs Checkpoint by a canine officer of the Revenue Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia, acting jointly with officers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia and with the assistance of a service dog assigned to the Customs Department’s Canine Unit.

Following an alert/suspicious reaction exhibited by the service dog in relation to a foreign national, the passenger was stopped for further inspection.

A detailed examination of both the individual and the passenger backpack belonging to the person concerned resulted in the discovery of the narcotic substance hashish.

The case materials were subsequently transferred to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia for further action.

The Canine Center, equipped with modern infrastructure, has been operating within the Customs Department of the Revenue Service since 2013. Across Georgia, canine officers and 36 specially trained detection dogs conduct security screening at customs checkpoints, with a particular focus on the detection and identification of narcotic substances and contraband tobacco products.
