Based on the monitoring results, plant protection specialists from the National Food Agency treated plants using specialized equipment in the city of Batumi, in areas where outbreaks of the American white moth were identified.

A biological insecticide [active ingredient Bacillus thuringiensis] was used against the pest in the resort zone. The activities were carried out in cooperation with the Batumi City Hall and in full compliance with safety regulations.

Within the framework of the state program, the National Food Agency systematically implements complex measures [monitoring, vegetation treatment] against the American white moth [Hyphantria cunea]. The pest is recorded in both Western and Eastern Georgia. This year, an area of 3,900 hectares has already been treated nationwide.

As a result of the large-scale measures implemented by the Agency, the distribution area of the American white moth population has been reduced to a minimum and is found only on individual trees in local residents' backyards.

For the localization and effective eradication of the pest, the active involvement of the local population is essential. The Agency urges citizens to implement mechanical control measures on their private properties: following agrotechnical guidelines, mechanically prune branches damaged by the pest. To prevent further spread, the cut material should be disposed of immediately according to local safety protocols, such as controlled burning where permitted and safe.
