Georgia marks Constitution Day, commemorating the adoption of the country`s supreme law in 1995.

On August 24, 1995, at 17:50, the then-composition of the Parliament adopted the Constitution with 159 votes in favor and 8 against. The document entered into force on the day the newly elected Parliament of 1995 officially assumed its mandate.

The Constitution established Georgia as an independent, unified, and indivisible state across its entire territory, including the Tskhinvali region and the Autonomous Republic of Abkhazia. It also declared Georgia a democratic republic and laid the foundation for the country’s modern system of governance. In line with democratic principles, state authority is exercised through the separation of powers, ensuring a balance between the legislative, executive, and judicial branches of government.
