The employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs continue active and continuous fight against various categories of crime. One of the main priorities of the Ministry’s activities is the fight against organized crime, including crimes related to the so-called criminal world.

As a result of a large-scale police operation in this direction, the employees of the Central Criminal Police Department, together with the Prosecutor General's Office of Georgia, have arrested 27 individuals associated with the so-called criminal world over the past 24 hours. Six more individuals are being charged, some in a penitentiary institution, some in absentia, including one so-called thief in law residing abroad.

As a result of intensive undercover investigative actions conducted by law enforcement officers based on a judge's ruling, it has been established that the defendants followed the instructions of the so-called criminal world residing abroad. They received money from the thief in law, Mamuka Chkhaberidze, and acted in accordance with his instructions.

They systematically communicated with each other and organized so-called criminal skirmishes, where decisions were made in accordance with thieves' traditions.

It was also established that the defendants discussed financial disputes between the parties, during which they imposed on one of the parties to pay to the other, as well as in their favor. In case of violation of specific deadlines, they threatened with physical punishment and death.

As a result of the personal search and search activities held in residential homes, the police seized computer equipment and mobile phones as evidence, through which they communicated with each other and with the so-called thief in law abroad. As a result of the investigative actions, the police also seized various types of firearms and ammunition.

The investigation is underway under Articles 223(1), 223 (3), 223 (4) and 236 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, envisioning the imprisonment for a term of up to 15 years.

It is noteworthy that the police measures carried out by the Ministry of Internal Affairs against organized crime this year have reached significant results.

Since January 1, law enforcement officers have detained and brought to criminal justice 343 persons associated with the so-called criminal world, including 8 so-called thieves in law.
