Yesterday’s heavy rainfall created problems in several districts of the city, as in Varaziskhevi, adjacent to Tbilisi State University, intense precipitation classified as a dangerous meteorological event was recorded over a five-hour period. Such a statement made today the Mayor of Tbilisi.
“Specifically, the amount of precipitation, including on the territory of TSU, reached 110 millimeters, which is a very large amount. There were several locations where the most significant problems emerged - the intersection of Tamarashvili Avenue and University Street, Guramishvili Avenue, the right bank of the Mtkvari River, the area adjacent to the “Goodwill” hypermarket in Didi Dighomi, and Eristavi Street, though everything was resolved very quickly.
First of all, I want to thank the representatives of every service that worked throughout the night, including “Tbilservice Group” and the staff of the district administrations. I want to thank the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Patrol Police, and the representatives of the Emergency Situations Management Service.
Cleanup work continued all night and is still ongoing now, so that the streets are cleaned and everything is put in order. Unfortunately, for some people every heavy rain is a reason for political speculation, but our task is not to argue. Our task is to resolve problems in a timely manner and to create infrastructure that will make the city even more resilient in the future. There has been, and still is, response to the hotline. Within the scope of our competence and capabilities, we will help everyone who has faced certain problems due to the rain. Managing a city does not mean claiming that no problem exists, but rather meeting these challenges each year better prepared than before. This is exactly what we are doing, and we will further strengthen our work in this direction”, - said Kakha Kaladze.
