Under the Resolution of the Government of Georgia, a new Legal Entity of Public Law (LEPL), the National Gastronomy Agency [NGA], has officially commenced operations within the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture.

The Agency has been established to safeguard, develop, and promote Georgia`s gastronomic heritage, enhance its international recognition, and formulate and implement a unified state policy for gastronomy.

During the initial phase of its operation, the duties of the Agency’s Head will be temporarily performed by Lasha Avaliani, Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture.

The NGA will be responsible for researching, preserving, and promoting Georgia’s gastronomic heritage; strengthening the relevant legal and regulatory framework; fostering coordination among public institutions, the private sector, and other stakeholders; and supporting the competitiveness of local products in domestic and international markets. The Agency’s activities will contribute to regional development, the diversification of agricultural production, and the commercialization of traditional local products.

These efforts would increase the incomes of rural communities, strengthen local production, and stimulate sustainable rural economic development.

In addition, the NGA will play a significant role in enhancing Georgia’s tourism potential, developing agro-tourism and gastronomic tourism. It will also reinforce the protection and effective use of geographical indications and appellations of origin, thereby safeguarding the quality, authenticity, and reputation of Georgian products while strengthening consumer confidence.
