Mr. Fischer was the only Ambassador who not only did nothing to strengthen these relations but did everything possible to damage Georgia-Germany relations – Kobakhidze

Prime Minister of Georgia criticised German Ambassador Peter Fischer, accusing him of damaging relations between Georgia and Germany and expressing hope that bilateral ties will improve in the future.

As Irakli Kobakhidze noted, Fischer was “the only Ambassador who had failed to contribute to the development of Georgian-German relations and had instead taken actions that harmed them”.

“As you know, Georgia and Germany have traditionally enjoyed a special relationship. Germany played a very important role, particularly in the early 1990s, in supporting the development of our country. It was a very difficult period, and Germany stood by Georgia. This partnership continued for many years. In fact, Mr. Fischer was the only Ambassador who not only did nothing to strengthen these relations but did everything possible to damage relations between Georgia and Germany, which is very unfortunate.

We hope this situation will be reversed, as it is very important for our country. Once again, I would like to express our gratitude to Germany for its significant support over the years. We sincerely hope that the friendly relations we once enjoyed will be restored. Unfortunately, Mr. Fischer caused considerable damage to these relations, and we hope this will change”, - said Irakli Kobakhidze.
