The Conference of Prosecutors of Georgia, where a new prosecutor member of the Prosecutorial Council [PC] was elected, was opened by the Prosecutor General of Georgia, Giorgi Gvarakidze.
In his speech, the Prosecutor General spoke about the importance of the Prosecutorial Council in the activities of the Prosecutor`s Office of Georgia and noted that the Prosecutorial Council has added another positive experience to the Prosecutor`s Office, such as a culture of team decision-making and the implementation of the will of the majority.
"This time, the tradition has not been broken and we are once again having to choose between strong competitors, which is undoubtedly reliable.
They have been associated with the Prosecutor`s Office for many years, have repeatedly proven their professionalism, dedication to the cause, and ability to make fair decisions. I am confident that the majority`s choice will be correct and beneficial for the Prosecutorial Council and our common future. Once again, I would like to express my respect to the employees in this hall and express my gratitude for your cooperation", - said the Prosecutor General.
In her speech, Londa Bichikashvili, Chairperson of the PC, emphasized the qualifications, many years of experience, and dedication of the candidates for the PC, noting that each candidate has the ability to contribute to the independent, transparent, and effective functioning of the Prosecutor`s Office.
At the conference, three candidates nominated by initiative groups with a quota of representatives of regional and district prosecutors` offices in Western Georgia: Mestia District Prosecutor Aleksandre Kodua, Kutaisi District Prosecutor Giorgi Lanchava, and Deputy Head of the Investigation Department of the Western Georgia Regional Prosecutor`s Office Giorgi Khachidze, presented their visions to the conference members.
The members of the PC were elected by secret ballot by prosecutors and investigators of the Prosecutor`s Office from among the candidates nominated by initiative groups, with a majority of votes. Kutaisi District Prosecutor Giorgi Lanchava became a member of the PC. According to the Organic Law of Georgia "On the Prosecutor`s Office", among the 15 members elected to the PC, there are 8 prosecutors, who are elected by secret ballot by the Conference of Prosecutors of Georgia. The term of office of a member of the Prosecutorial Council is 4 years. The PC ensures the independence and transparency of the Prosecutor`s Office.
