Government of Georgia has taken significant steps to strengthen transparency, accountability and effective monitoring - Zhorzholiani

Head of the Government Administration [GA] participated in a panel discussion on Strengthening Government Accountability through Oversight held today within the scope of the United Nations Public Service Forum [UNPSF].

Levan Zhorzholiani highlighted the steps taken by the Government of Georgia to strengthen accountability, transparency and effective governance, noting that these principles are essential not only for good governance, but also for enhancing public trust, ensuring the effective functioning of institutions and delivering tangible results for citizens.

He also spoke about the role of the GA as the coordinating body across the government and outlined the reforms implemented by the Government of Georgia, including amendments to the Law on Public Procurement, as well as the work of the Government Efficiency Department and the State Audit Office.

He emphasized the vital role of monitoring, transparency and independent oversight mechanisms in promoting the integrity of public institutions and improving the quality of public services: "The Government of Georgia has taken significant steps to strengthen transparency, accountability and effective monitoring. I would particularly highlight the public procurement reforms initiated in Parliament, which have substantially improved the system. We also established the Government Efficiency Department, whose work over the second half of 2025 and the corresponding period of 2026 has generated savings of over 390 million GEL for the state budget. In addition, we have significantly strengthened the State Audit Office. Under the latest reforms, the Anti-Corruption Bureau has been integrated into the State Audit Office, making it part of a constitutional institution and further reinforcing its independence".

The UNPSF will continue for three days. Participants will discuss a range of topics, including digital transformation, the responsible use of artificial intelligence, data protection, inclusive governance, anti-corruption efforts, strengthening citizen engagement and improving access to public services.
