Mr. Joe Wilson is intentionally harming Georgia’s reputation - Maka Botchorishvili

The allegations leveled against the Georgian government by US Congressman Joe Wilson are groundless and impede the resetting of relations with the United States. The Vice Prime Minister/Minister of Foreign Affairs said this in an interview with “IMEDI Live”.

As she noted, Georgia expects sincerity and mutual respect as it works with partners to establish a new framework for bilateral relations.

“We want to believe that those who speak to us about resetting US-Georgia relations, creating a new bilateral framework, and the strategic importance of our ties, are sincere and genuinely mean what they say during our meetings. We desire a healthy, meaningful relationship between Georgia and America that is built on mutual respect and serves the interests of both nations”, - said Maka Botchorishvili.

She also emphasized that the Congressman’s actions undermine these positive expectations, as his criticism lacks any factual basis.

“Statements and steps like those taken by Mr. Joe Wilson clearly hinder this process. He is deliberately damaging Georgia's reputation. If pressed, he cannot produce any evidence or prove anything other than the pro-Georgian stance of the current government. Yet, he continues to publish these claims routinely. It is deeply regrettable that he remains the primary, and often only, active voice heard from the US regarding Georgia, which certainly does not aid the ongoing process”, - concluded the Minister.
