Discussion took place in a fact-based atmosphere - Markus Lammert on the meeting in Brussels

The European Commission’s temporary suspension of the visa-free regime is based on a biased report. This is how the Ministry of Foreign Affairs responds to the question of “Kurieri” regarding the meeting held in Brussels.

According to the agency, the parties discussed the European Commission’s decision of March 6, which concerns the temporary suspension of the visa exemption for holders of diplomatic passports.

The European Commission’s spokesperson, Markus Lammerti, explained what issues the meeting held in Brussels within the framework of the visa dialogue between the delegations of Georgia and the European Commission would address.

“Yesterday’s meeting was a technical level meeting focused on the issues that triggered the activation of the visa suspension mechanism.

The Commission communicated in detail the reasons for its decision. Which are focused on democracy and fundamental rights. The Georgian side also laid out their points of view. The discussions took place in a fact-based atmosphere. Both sides agreed to now report back to the authorities and to discuss there the substance and potential next steps”, - said Markus Lammert.
