The Procedural Management Department for Criminal Cases of Fraud of the Tbilisi Prosecutor’s Office has charged three individuals with fraudulently acquiring a large amount of money.

An investigation conducted by the Ministry of Internal Affairs revealed that the defendants, in order to fraudulently appropriate a large amount of money, agreed to the construction of small summer houses and other works from citizens and, under the pretext of quickly fulfilling the obligations assumed, demanded advance payment from them. The defendants, both personally and on behalf of a legal entity, concluded fictitious transactions with customers and received a total of 164,000 GEL from them, which they fully appropriated.

Law enforcement officers arrested the defendants based on a judge’s ruling. They were charged under Article 180, Part 2, Subparagraph “a” and Article 180, Part 3, Subparagraph “b” of the Criminal Code of Georgia (fraud, by a group with prior agreement, in a large amount), which provides for up to 9 years of imprisonment as a form and measure of punishment.

The Prosecutor’s Office has already petitioned the court to impose imprisonment as a preventive measure on the defendants.
