The Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia has charged 7 individuals, including foreign citizens, with facilitating the illegal purchase, storage and sale of large and especially large quantities of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances.

The investigation conducted by the Ministry of Internal Affairs established that the defendants illegally purchased and stored a large and especially large amount of the narcotic drug “Methadone” and the psychotropic substance “Prebagalin” for the purpose of facilitating their sale. As a result of the measures taken, the aforementioned narcotic drugs were seized by the employees of the Central Criminal Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

The detainees were charged under Article 260, Part Two, Subparagraph “b”, Part 3, Subparagraph “a” (illegal purchase and storage of large and especially large quantities of narcotic drugs in a group), Article 260, Part Five, Subparagraph “b”, Part Six, Subparagraph “a” (facilitation of illegal sale of large and especially large quantities of narcotic drugs in a group), and Article 261, Part One, Subparagraph “a” (illegal purchase and storage of psychotropic substances) of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which provides for a sentence of up to 20 years or life imprisonment.

Based on the prosecutor’s motion, the court sentenced the defendants to imprisonment as a preventive measure.
