New strategic partnership must deliver tangible results for both Georgian and American people - Papuashvili

The ongoing reset process carries particular significance for us, because the new U.S. administration uses two specific terms when speaking about American-Georgian relations: sovereignty and national interests. Such a statement made today the Speaker of the Georgian Parliament.

"These are precisely the two principles that the Biden administration chose to disregard, both concerning Georgia and to other countries` sovereignty and national interests.

This fundamental shift in American foreign policy is what matters most to us, and it is what gives us hope that a new strategic partnership can be built. As for the strategic partnership that was handed to the then-ruling United National Movement regime in 2009, in the wake of the August Georgia-Russia war, essentially as a consolation prize to prevent its total collapse, I believe there is now full consensus, on both sides, that it was a hollow and meaningless document: a declaration with no substantive content.

I believe both sides agree that a new strategic partnership must be built on a real agenda and must be oriented towards delivering tangible results for both the Georgian and the American people. In that regard, I believe we share a common vision with the U.S. administration", - said Shalva Papuashvili.
